White doll dresses for American Girl dolls…and a $65,300 doll…

Let’s start with that $65,300 doll first… Have you seen this auction for a Cinderella doll and her outfit by the artist, Marina Bychkova of Enchanted Doll? It is on Ebay and ends Saturday evening around 8:15pm, so the price will most likely go up. It was a mere $40,000 the last time I checked. There are 12 bidders bidding for it and it has 46 bids already. I’m not sure if the seller will leave the pictures up after the sale so the images in her listing might disappear. This is quite a work of art and looks like it must have taken forever to make her dress and corset. I didn’t want to infringe on her picture rights, so I’m just going to give you a link to the auction. You should “put it in your watch list” on Ebay and see what it ends up going for. I know I’ll be watching!!! Here is the link to it… (HERE)

After looking at that, my dresses seem kind of puny…a-n-y-w-a-y

With all the winter snow blowing around, I thought maybe I would show some archived white dresses that I have made. There’s nothing quite so disheartening as being blanketed with 30″ of snow, so how about something white to “calm” you… doll dresses! Sit back and feast on these…

Someone needs to make more white dresses, don’t you think?

See you tomorrow,

  1. OH Jeanne, if I had $65,000 to spend, it certainly wouldn’t be on that doll! I mean, she looks so sad! That would never do in my household!! We are happy here! That is mazing though, that someone has that much money to “play” with!!

I especially love the last two dresses you made–well–not the VERY last one (LOL), but Felicity’s beautiful white dress and then Elizabeth’s dress. I really hardly ever see dresses for my Felicity much at all on Ebay, and that is so fitting and very appropriate for her. Love that hat too! All of them look just lovely, and I love the necklaces too.

Don’t tell me that you have 30″ of snow in Southern Illinois? Where did that come from?

    1. HI Linda,
If I had $65,000 to spend it certainly wouldn’t be for a doll…ANY doll…but it will be interesting to see what she ends up selling for. I have to respect and admire the lady who sculpted this doll and made her very elaborate costume. It is unbelievably intricate.
Felicity’s silk swirl dress was a surprise for someone. One of my customers commissioned me to make it for her best friend. It was a lot of fun and the note I got from the “friend” was SO sweet.
I like Regency, Civil War and Colonial dresses the best I think. There is something just so elegant about them.
The 30″ of snow was for the people out on the east coast. No we only have 30 degree weather here…but we’ve “decided” to skip the snow!!!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Wowza!!! That’s some doll! I didn’t think it possible… There are people with a LOT of extra money out there.
It’s funny. I have a few white dresses knit up for Amelia waiting for embroidery. I just made four white hats for her and am embellishing them with whites. White must be in the air. Is the snow getting to us. Although… we still don’t have much here. Looking out the window right now it is frosty, yes, but I see lots of grass.
    Your white dresses are GORGEOUS!!!

    1. HI Cindy,
Yes, that’s SOME doll is right! Some “incredible” doll! She’d have to be locked in a vault at my house if I paid that much for her! Then she’d be no fun!

I guess white is the new color right now. I just picked up a new piece of white eyelet yesterday and paid $10.00 a yard for the fabric. That’s way more than I ever do, so I must have really liked it.

Oooo, can’t wait to see the new outfits for Amelia. White it is!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. I can’t imagine buying that doll.. I’m with Linda.. why would you want a depressing doll hanging around? I think part of that doll selling so high she truly is a OOAK doll.. the artist sculpted her from nothing and then made her clothes too out of sterling silver.. but she sure wouldn’t have a place in my collection.
As always I love your dresses.
    Hugs, Kath

    1. Hi Kath,
I can’t imagine the person who is the top bidder right now on that dress. She must be so nervous wondering if someone is going to outbid her and how high should she place her next bid… I’m glad I’ll just be watching…
      Thanks Kath,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, I have to address the white dresses first. That sounds so calm but I am crazy nuts for white dresses. I am so drawn to them anytime I shop or am on a fabric search. Felicity and Elizabeth look so happy in their beautiful clean and crisp summer “frocks”. These white dresses are stunning! Seeing Felicity so sweetly dressed has made up my mind to search out and find my own. We have a Caroline already and I think she and Elizabeth are very similar.
So as to the Cinderella OOAK – I can see an extreme doll collector being interested in her. The doll is interesting though and the creative work on her clothing and intricate silver work is amazing. She is an artist’s work just as sometimes music is a musician’s work. Often beyond concepts I understand. Thank you for sharing this find. It is an entirely different world to be exposed to. I have tagged her and will watch her on eBay.

    1. Hi Jeannie,
I think anyone who has seen this listing has it in their “watch” list and will be watching to see what happens and how high it goes. Her pictures are fantastic, but I bet in person, this doll is breathtaking.
Thanks for the kind comments on my white dresses. Like I told Cindy above, I just bought some new white eyelet yesterday that is SO SO pretty! I don’t know who will get it, but some lucky duck will.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Hi Jeanne,
I agree with the other two ladies about the doll. She is so sad I think it would be depressing have her around. And that price?!! Who on earth has that kind of money for a doll. Thanks for showing her to us as I do like to look at all kinds of dolls. I have her in my watch list to see what the ending bis is.
I really love that ivory gown on Felicity. I agree with Linda that i also hardly ever see dresses for my Felicity on EBay unless they are her original clothes. I have all her Pleasant Company outfits so that doesn’t help although I do hope now to make her something new in yellow or pale green for summer that complements her coloring better. Maybe you’ll sew something for Felicity in the future. 🙂 I personally think she was the prettiest Pleasant Company doll and then I’d pick Samantha. For the American Girl dolls I would have a three way tie between Nellie, Kit and Elizabeth. Happily between my daughter and me we have all five lovely girls.:-)

    1. Hi Laura,
That $65,000 doll is certainly causing interest… now it’s up $200 more! Somebody out there likes her.
I think I need to make some Felicity dresses. She was my very first doll and I used to sew exclusively for her that first year. I think I need to revive some of my old patterns and come up with a new dress for her!
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Hi Jeanne,
L O V E the white dresses!! They are so elegant and beautiful. I wish I had known about you sooner than last July!!
Felicity’s dress is exquisite and the two on Elizabeth are sweet and pure looking and embellished beautifully.
It is always exciting to see the dresses you’ve made in the past.
Still haven’t made it to the AG store. I want to get a new doll but can’t come up with one that would make sense coming from S.F. since I already have Julie?

    Have a good day!
    Blessings

    1. Hi Paula,
Well, all is not lost…I am still sewing and plan to for a long time, so you’ll have your fill of dresses even though you found me later than some.
Thanks for your sweet comments on my dresses.
Maybe just go the AG store and see which one speaks to your heart. I’ve heard of ladies going to get one particular doll and winding up getting a totally different one. Just see what happens.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Frankly, that ridiculously-priced doll looks like it has a terrible cold! Unattractive, to say the least.

    1. Hi Cherri,
Well, she might look like she has a cold to you, but to some other ladies, she must look their dream doll! To each his own! We’ll see what she goes for and then I guess we’ll just have to wonder who is the winner!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. I too will be watching the auction of the Cinderella doll. I think the doll is realistically a work of art. I cannot imagine an owner playing with Cinderella. Except for breakage, isn’t china or porcelain, I don’t know the difference, the most stable material for a doll. When we lived in S.CA we would sometimes attend antique doll auctions and see prices realized in high figures. It was fun to see the dolls and I guess we were like kids with our noses pressed against a window gazing at the rich kids party. There were few dolls I truly liked though.

On a group I read the artist’s first dolls sold for about $20,00 and considered a good investment. I want a doll that I love and this also means I want to play with the doll. I recently bought a Kish Olivia and couldn’t wait to undress her and move her joints. Olivia feels just right in my hands.

    1. Hi Jan,
I think that is what I like… a doll I don’t have to be afraid to play with. I do have a resin BJD (Ball jointed doll) Nyssa, by Kaye Wiggs, that is somewhat delicate, but not terribly so. I am very careful with her, but I can’t even imagine having a doll as expensive as this one is going for. I would be so afraid of dropping her or something.
You got a real cutie with Olivia, Jan! congrats!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. The auction doll is very artsy-looking, but that’s not really my thing. I like having dolls that I don’t have to put on a shelf when the grandkids come over. And, like the other commenters, I could never spend $65,000 fot a doll. Gee, I can’t even imagine spending that much on a car!
I love your white dresses! I have the fabric you used for the first one but haven’t done anything with it yet. I could never picture what type of dress to make from it. You have such good eye for design–I think you’ve inspired me to do a colonial or regency dress!

    1. Hi Carolyn,
I think all of my subscribers are of the thought that dolls are meant to be played with… at the very least “redressed!” I love to pose my dolls and handle them with care, but not so fearful that they’ll break a finger or smash their face.
I’m happy to love my dolls and know they love me back… in only a way a doll can.

All this talk of everyone wanting more dresses for Felicity is putting me in a Colonial mood too.
      Blessings, Jeanne
