Oh dear… I did a little more damage at JoAnn Fabric’s today…

I knew I shouldn’t have gone into JoAnn Fabric’s today, but I couldn’t resist. Does that ever happen to you? I went in to look for something that could be used for putting my Christmas “treats” in, and look what happened…

I wasn’t terrible, but I certainly ended up with more in my basket than I intended. I did find some cute little canisters with a clear top that I can use to put cookies or candied pecans in… and they were 60% off…now that’s a bargain, right? You’d have done the same thing and bought them, wouldn’t you?

Then I spotted these 2 fat quarters and something about them just called out to me… they will most likely end up as a Civil War dress, but I haven’t draped them on any of my dolls yet, so I’m not totally certain about it…

Next, I passed by the Christmas ornaments and there was only one little kitty left… and you know what he said to me…”can’t you put me in your “Dolly Toy Box?” I promise to be good… So what could I say… in the basket he went! If you haven’t seen the Dolly Toy Box, click here! The little snowman was too cute to resist as well, and he’ll make a nice “accessory” for someone’s Christmas dress…(hopefully this year’s Christmas…)

I looked at the Christmas fabrics and this red plaid sparkly fabric caught my eye…so I asked for 1 1/2 yards… not too terribly much, but enough for a few dresses. I haven’t decided what “era” this belongs in either, so I’ll have to play around with it against some dolls faces.
The laces were half price, so I picked up a few yards of white and ecru to make some slips for the dolls.

…and lastly, as I was leaving the cutting table, a sign caught my eye…Simplicity patterns were on sale for $1.99. I glanced at a pattern book and on the back was Eve Coleman’s (Keeper’s Dolly Duds) new pattern, so I HAD to support her… fellow seamstress that she is! So her pattern found its way into my basket…and as I was heading to the counter to pay, I spied one more little thing… a package of trim that I like very much to use at Christmas… yes, it’s the same as the one I just used on Kirsten’s Swedish Christmas dress.

I finally made it to the checkout line and I did do S-O-M-E damage, but hey, I saved $77 and .33 cents! WooHoo! Now I’m off to put it all away…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Good morning, Jeanne. So fun to see what you bought! The savings ARE what’s important not the actual cost, right? Eve’s pattern has lots of cute details. Are those the Kidz N’ Cats dolls? They sure are cute.
BTW, I did add a comment yesterday. The first one I added in the afternoon and later saw that one didn’t stick so I added another in the evening. Sorry I responded so late.

    1. HI Cindy,
Yes, I did see your comments and I responded on yesterday’s post about Julie. I appreciate your thoughts and still haven’t decided about her. I do tend to sew more for the historical dolls and Julie just might be a doll I’m wanting, but not necessarily need. I got lots of comments and emails from ladies saying Elizabeth stood in very well for Julie, so I could always just have a “Julie” at my disposal by using her…who knows…

I’m not sure if those are Kidz N Cats dolls or not… they do look like them…guess they can’t use the AG dolls anymore for models. The dresses seem to look a little better on the AG dolls though. I know when someone submits a pattern to Simplicity, they have to send the item in for them to use…it’s not remade…it’s what you’ve made up…
Well, I’ve got to finish those 2 dresses…I went to bed at 3:15 and still need to make something for their heads…

  2. It’s always a dangerous thing to go into Joann’s for one thing, because you never just purchase that one thing. Or, you go in, find several things, and leave without getting that one thing you originally went in for. At least, that’s what I’m guilty of. 🙂 But I always manage to either save the same amount as I spend, or close to it, so hubby doesn’t get too upset with me when I walk in with bags full of fabric. LOL 🙂

    1. Hi Christine,
I have to make myself stay away from there sometimes, but other times I just can’t resist. It seems I’m not alone!!! I justify going by saying, “I’ll eventually use it” or “If I don’t buy it now, I’ll need it later and will have to come back…”…works for me!

  3. Gorgeous material and such cute Christmasy items. Never thought Joann’s had little items like that and not being a sewing person, don’t go there often. But I shall ! You have the most excellent taste in materials!
    Blessings!

    1. HI Paula,
Yes, JoAnn’s has lots of fun little goodies that even people who don’t sew can love! It’s a great place to go to buy cake decorating things and greenery and silk flowers and lots of little trinkety items.
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, my hat is off to you!!! It is all about the savings and who could pass that up??
I love all of your findings!
Here is another justification for your shopping spree…. with your new stash of goodies, you are teaching. You made a selection of fabric and a trim that works together, you moved on to lace for slips and added sweet little kritters for accessories. This helps those of us who are learning to make “go together” selections. I have tended to just buy what I like and then try to put it together at home. Usually that involves a return to the store to pick up the embellishments I didn’t have at home.
I love the new pattern and the price… great!! I can’t wait to see what is made with those cute styles.

    1. Hi Jeannie,
Thanks for your comments. I didn’t really think of it as “teaching”… maybe “how to spend money”… but whatever…
I’m in a fabric store, like my hubby is in a tool store. He could look for hours going up and down each aisle eyeing everything in site… THATS why when we go somewhere, he goes to the tool place and drops me off at the fabric store….the only problem is who is going to pick the other person up first… neither of us wants to be the first one to leave our store.
      Thanks Jeannie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Those were all awesome buys…and what’s better than having what you need when you need it without a trip to the fabric store.
My boys still tease me about all the hours they spent in the fabric store as little kids.
    Later……

    1. Thank you Kathie,
Yes, my hubby can attest to those waits in the car as well. I remember being in a store in Tennessee that had seats and men were sitting in all of them… those people had figured out how to please the men… they just needed a TV with a sports channel and they would have been all set.
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne
