I’m in a quandry… I have all this Christmas fabric…cotton prints of every color and design imaginable; ones that are gilded (outlined in gold); many that are easily coordinated with others; velvets that are crushed, embossed, burn out, windowpane; prints that are beautiful, others that are more novelty, tiny prints, larger prints…(you’re only seeing a “small” part of them)…
…and I don’t know which doll to sew for. So I thought I’d ask you, my subscribers and readers, who you’d like to see me sew for next. I’ll show you the dolls I have and you can let me know who you vote for.
Starting with the littlest girls on my dolly shelf, I have 10″ Elin, by Iplehouse and 10″ Patsy by Robert Tonner.
Next are my 13″ Dianna Effner Little Darlings… Isabelle, Janie and Lian.
At 17″ (I think…) we have Ellowyne by Robert Tonner. She’s quite the fashionista…
Standing 18″ tall are my 2 Kaye Wiggs dolls, Hope and Nyssa.
…and the largest dolls on my shelf are my American Girl dolls. I have Saige, a blonde #27, Molly, Kirsten, Elizabeth, Eden (#41) and Rebecca. I narrowed down my dolls, selling 14 of them last year thinking I could do most periods in history with these dolls. For example I use Elizabeth for the Colonial dresses, Regency dresses and she also stands in as Julie for the 1970’s. Rebecca is from the time period 1914 but I use her for Civil War dresses too.
So… here’s what I thought: You can leave me a comment (down at the bottom of the post) or you can use the tab under the banner and “contact me” letting me know WHICH doll you would like to see in a Christmas dress next. If you’d like to suggest a doll and a period in history, I have dolls that could do these periods: Colonial, Civil War, Regency, 1930’s, 1940’s 1970’s, Western, Prairie, Victorian, or Spanish. Hopefully I’ll get some feedback and make a decision based on what you all commented on. I hope everyone voices their opinion…it’ll be more fun if lots of people tell who they want to be next. I’m looking forward to seeing who gets the most votes…
Make sure you read tomorrow’s post… It’s my 100th post and I’m having a contest that will be starting in a few days.
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
I’d like to see you sew something Christmas for Nyssa! I look forward to reading your blog every morning. Thanks for the fun!
HI Linda,
I got Nyssa out of her box last night and changed her eyes to her “default” ones and thought to myself, “why don’t you sew for this girl more…she’s beautiful?” So far Nyssa has 2 votes, so maybe….
Blessings, Jeanne
I would like you to make something for 10 inch Elin by Iplehouse.
Thanks Dorothy,
Well, I have a vote for Elin and one for Patsy who can share things, so maybe she’ll win…
Blessings, Jeanne
Jeanne,
I’m pressed for time, but after seeing all the pretty calico prints, I think a sweet pioneer or Prairie outfit for Kirsten would be fun.
HI Linda,
I have a soft spot for mixing all kinds of prints together to make something for Kirsten, so it would be a fun project to work on… especially a “Christmasy” set.
Blessings, Jeanne
I’ve got no idea…that’s always a big question that I have here too. Did you see my Talyssa, Jeanne? I just got her, and Millie arrived shortly after. So, I’ve got two new sizes to make outfits for around here. Too many dolls and not enough time… Good luck deciding. BTW, you have MUCH more Christmas fabric than I have!
HI Cindy,
I DID see her, and she is adorable. That little dress set is just too cute. I LOVE the little capelet and the gloves. The little sprigs of holly and berries are done so beautifully…so dainty like. You’re going to have lots of fun with her, I can tell.
Oh my, if you think these pictures show lots of Christmas fabric, you’d faint if you saw it all…
I need to sign up for your blog posts… after all, you signed up for mine…
Blessings, Jeanne
I would like you to sew for Patsy.
HI Regina,
Okay, that’s one vote for Patsy. It’s easy for me to come up with a little girl Christmasy dress for her. She’s a sweet one to sew for.
blessings, Jeanne
The pictures of the Christmas material are irresistible. This is a vote for the Civil War era with the American Girls. Several of my girls live in the Civil War era and dresses for them, made as well as yours, are hard to find. Thank you.
HI Paula,
I just had a “feeling” that you’d be the one voting for something from the Civil War era. I have plenty of fabrics to do something from that time period.
Blessings, Jeanne
My vote is for Nyssa. I haven’t seen much of her and she is so pretty. I’m so jealous of your fabric stash!!! Lol!
Hi Karen in CO,
Well, your vote makes it 2 for Nyssa. She hasn’t been out of her box lately around here. I keep her in it to keep her away from the light, which causes the resin to yellow. She’d LOVE to be a model for a Christmas dress.
Blessings, Jeanne
Do you have any Kish Dolls? I would like to see something in the 14″ size.
Sylvia
HI Sylvia,
I sold my 14″ Wren doll last year so I don’t have any dolls that size right now, but I still have my patterns when I sewed for Wren, so it’s still a possiblity. Most of my things that fit the 13″ Effner Little Darlings will fit the 14″ Kish dolls with just some minor adjustments.
Thanks for commenting,
Blessings, Jeanne
I would love to see something special for Kirsten!
All of your girls are beautiful!
Thanks so much Jane,
Well, that make 2 votes for Kirsten, so maybe she’ll be the winner. I have some fun fabrics that would make pretty Christmas dresses for her.
Blessings, Jeanne
I’d like to see Victorian with Molly. Love receiving your emails!!
Thanks for your vote Debi,
Molly would look good all dressed up in a Victorian outfit. We’ll see….
blessings, Jeanne
I would love to see something Colonial, Victorian or Civil War. I don’t have any of the AG girls you have, but I have a Pleasant Company German Felicity and I was so pleased with your post featuring her. She is actually my favorite PC doll. Maybe Saige could be the stand in. I think she might have looked pretty in that lovely black, gray and white Civil War dress Eden modeled. I actually like her in gray. I also Have a Pleasant Company white body Samantha with the light brown hair who would love a new dress. I’ve never seen a Victorian dress you’ve sewn because that must have been before I found your auctions.
I really enjoy the Colonial and Civil War time periods and think the Christmas dresses worn during those times were so elegant.
Thanks Laura,
I’ve gotten all your choices written down and we’ll see who wins out by the end of the day. It’s been a while since I made a Colonial dress so I’d be happy if that won out! I was debating about getting the new #61 red head just because I sold my Felicity and kept Elizabeth for the Colonial dresses. I’m not sure I like her dark green eyes though. If they had been any color other than that dark dark green she would probably already have been living here by now.
I’m with you on the elegance of the Colonial and Civil War dresses… there is no denying how beautiful they were or how pretty they can be made. We’ll see…
Blessings, Jeanne
I vote for Hope or Nyssa. They are both so cute….
Or maybe something for Rebecca I just love her. I hope she is my next one.
Judi
HI Judi,
Thanks for putting in your vote. It’s getting interesting, with all the emails and the comments coming in…
Blessings, Jeanne
I guess I am the old one out… but I haven’t seen you do anything for Ellowyne and I just got a Lizette for Christmas and can’t wait to open her,, so I would love for you to motivate me to make her some Christmas dresses..
HI Kath,
Someone sent me an email asking for an Ellowyne dress, so you aren’t alone…. we’ll see who wins…
Thanks for not being afraid to voice your opinion! Ellowyne IS lovely!
Blessings, Jeanne
HI
Until today I had never seen an Ellowyne…and I love her! I think she needs a very 2014 kind of Christmas dress…what a cutie!
Have fun!
Kathie,
I think the Ellowyne dolls are just…can I say…”Divine” and so beautifully made. I just have trouble coming up with modern kinds of things for her, because she is quite the fashionista! I spend most of my time doing child dresses and to switch to a grown up girl who is supposed to be 19 is sometimes hard for me. But if she wins, I’ll do my best!
Thanks Kathie,
Blessings, Jeanne
Here is another vote for Ellowynne. I’d love to see what you would create for her.
Hi Jan,
That’s another vote for Ellowyne’s column. We’ll have to see what happens… thanks for voting,
Blessings, Jeanne
I don’t have an Ellowynne, but I’d love to see yours in something Victorian, possibly with a cape and hood for Christmas. I think she’d be lovely.
I already have a vote in for a black and white outfit for Julie for Christmas.
Christmas is such a Victorian time. If I had a third wish, it would be for a Victorian Christmas dress for the AGs. I’ve seen pictures of Queen Victoria’s daughters in white batiste with plaid taffeta sashes. All of your girls would be lovely in dresses like that. I think the sashes were fringed. So there are my wishes, in order, but the third dress doesn’t have to be white, just Victorian.
Hi Marilyn,
Thanks for joining in on the fun! I’ve made notes of your wishes so we’ll have to see what happens. I better get to looking for some pattern ideas for a few of the front runner dolls…
Blessings, Jeanne
I was going to say Ellowynne, also (before I read all the messages) or else little Isabelle. I could see Ellowynne in that beautiful plaid at the bottom of the top photo, perhaps combined with one of the tone-on-tone prints (the gold or the red) off to the right. I could see Isabelle in that sweet print just on top of the plaid.
To me, a big part of the fun of sewing for dolls is putting fabrics together!
HI Charlotte,
Yes, putting fabrics together is one of my favorite things to do too! That’s why I think I love to make Kirsten outfits because you can use all sorts of prints that go together and pull off a really fun outfit.
Okay, we’ll see who wins… soon.
blessings, Jeanne
Hi Jeanne, I know you don’t usually do Ellowyne and she is still may favorite girl. I’d love to see her in a Victorian inspired outfit. would also love to see Patsy in a Victorian inspired out fit
Hi Lynne,
Well, your vote for Ellowyne puts her way ahead of the others, so it’s Ellowyne on the sewing table next…
Thanks for your vote.
blessings, Jeanne
