I did a little damage…did you?

Okay, so who got up early and did the Black Friday thing??? I didn’t get up early, but here’s a little damage I caused…not anything like what I’ve done in the past. I thought I’d just show you what ended up in my basket….

2 pieces of fabric… a pretty bold Christmasy plaid and a dainty little floral print in mint green and orange.

Oh yes, I can always use a new pair of scissors…

…and snaps…I go through lots and lots of snaps…and sewing machine needles.

CIMG5323

Of course, I had to stop and look at the patterns…and of course a few fell into my basket. I have plans to revamp the cape just a bit for both patterns…

CIMG5333

I also spotted Keepers Dolly Duds pattern and another one from Joan Dickhaut that has some interesting pieces to it…

… and then one just for me… I think the lace jacket is really pretty!

So this was my stash…

Was yours bigger???

See you tomorrow,

  1. First of all, Jeanne, I am trying to catch up with the past few days of your blog, I have just been so busy with Thanksgiving and babysitting!

As far as shopping on Black Friday, no, no, no!! Just won’t do it! I can go anywhere anytime, so there’s no need to go when it gets crazy. I think a fabric store wouldn’t be bad, but if it’s a big box store, no thanks! But then Carbondale may not be like St. Louis is.

You picked out some nice things! I love, love, love the lace jacket pattern! It says 50’s, but can also work for today. By the way, your Gunne Sax wedding dress looks very familiar to me. I made myself and daughter matching ones way back when, but they were for Christmas. Those were the days!

    1. HI Linda,
You must have grandkids that you are babysitting? Thanksgiving is a lot of work…just the cooking alone is a lot to do!
Carbondale isn’t too crazy as far as shopping goes, but some people really get into it and camp out at Best Buy for a week ahead of time…
I got my dress for Kirsten started last night and I’m going to use the red and green plaid for her skirt… I’m staying home today so maybe I’ll get it moving along…
      Thanks Linda,
      blessings, Jeanne

  2. I shopped online. I think I have 20 new pieces of fabric ordered…it’s better than candy to me…and more expensive. So far I’ve managed to keep away from actually ordering more yarn (I received an order two weeks ago), but my shopping cart is filled. LOL! We’ll see if I hit the check out button before the sale is over.
I haven’t looked at store patterns in years. You found adorable ones. Hope you can find some sewing time this weekend to get to work with your cute fabric.

    1. HI Cindy,
Now that’s smart…staying home with just you and the computer to do your shopping… I might do more damage that way though…
Are you still having fun with Talyssa?
I’m working on Kirsten’s dress and hope to make some headway on it even today if possible.
      Thanks Cindy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. What neat items you found. The two pieces of fabric you got are really pretty. By the way, little Isabelle’s dress is just adorable and the coats are too. Love the materials you used. With the view you have looking out of your sewing room window(s), it must be very tranquil while sewing and concentrating on your beautiful creations?

With most of my Christmas shopping done, I’ve averted my attention to looking at another AMG doll on Ebay. “IF” I win her, what era would she be in…hmmm. Oh, and she would need clothes too…..LOL.

    1. Hi Paula,
Oh you smart lady…getting your shopping done early for others so you can “shop” for yourself… I’m dying to know…who is the doll you are looking at??? I promise not to bid against you and as her “seamstress” I need to know what she might “need!” :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Just in case you read this since this is much later in the day, the doll I’d like to get is from the same lady Caroline came from, remember her? This one has green eyes and Marie Grace’s hair. She is very beautiful but she looks a little more modern due to her hair style. Perhaps one braid would help although her hair is pretty the way it is styled now. If I should get her, I think the Civil War era would be neat but she “might” belong to the prairie girl style? If you should see her online, as her seamstress, your advice would be greatly appreciated on what era she looks like to you. Thank you so much. I must be careful predicting getting her in case their is another bidding war and I lose. However, I would much rather save for clothes from your auctions than get another doll!

        1. HI Paula,
          Okay… I’m off to see if I can find her… I’ll let you know if I do…
          blessings, Jeanne

          1. HI Paula,
I-FOUND-HER!!! Beautiful!!! I had seen her earlier and she caught my eye…
I LOVE HER wig….it is gorgeous… You could do so many things with it.
I’ll keep an eye on her… waiting is so hard isn’t it? I think she could be anyone from any era…no bangs and long hair to do many different styles with. Just a perfect doll in my opinion…
            Blessings, Jeanne

With great shame I will admit that my daughter {visiting from Albuquerque} and I visited Michael’s on Thanksgiving at 4 pm. Yes, we waited in line. It is a super rare treat to go shopping with anyone and especially with one of my daughters. I picked up a few items for my Christmas swap gift so I can not include pictures. My daughter did most of the damage with a Christmas tree on special and a host of arts & crafts gifts for her two little girls {I call them, “the butterflies”}. It was actually great fun. Today we are headed to the thrift store to look for good goodies. Always find very interesting things there.
We have already visited the American Girl Store which I was told is the most wonderful place in the world!! Lots of eye candy.

    1. Hi Jeannie,
Oh how much fun you must have had shopping… it sounds wonderful and if I lived in TX I would have asked to come along… I love shopping at Thrift stores looking for goodies too! It’s one of my favorites to go to.
It’s funny… I make all these outfits for the American Girl dolls and I’ve never been to one of their stores before… One of these days I have got to go!!!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Jeanne,
You did good… I also shopped online like Cindy, and I had my sweetie bring in a couple of big plastic bins from the garage, that have Christmas fabric and coat and jacket fabric. Now to find the time to get busy with all of this. Do you sew for Christmas during the year? I think I am going to start doing that. One month just isn’t enough time for all of the ideas that come to mind, even when sleeping. Don’t you agree?

    Judi

    1. Hi Judi,
I totally agree with you.. I don’t sew through the year, but I sure need to. As I’m counting down the days till I’ll stop sewing for the year… there aren’t enough days left to do what I want to do… rats! I should just keep my Christmas fabrics on the shelf with the rest and maybe I’d get inspired in July to make something to save for November or December… Oh well, too late for this year… maybe next year!
      Blessings, Jeanne

To the ladies who mentioned sewing through-out the year – this is a great idea. I find myself behind the curve once a holiday is near. We ought to look to the learn something from how the manufacturers do their business. Summer during the winter, spring during the fall and so forth. If a person would stock up their larder to have the proper elements at hand it would really help being ready and on time. We could make, what we call an “opposite calendar”.
However, would that take the fun out of creating Christmas dresses while Bing Crosby sings White Christmas???

    1. Hi Jeannie,
Yes, it’s kind of hard to make Christmas dress while you’re sweating or while all those new and pretty summer fabrics keep showing up at the stores… Great theory, but I’ve never been able to make it happen in my sewing room. I used to start sewing for Christmas back in October, but the last few years it’s just been “cram as much in as quickly as you can” for me…
      Maybe next year… :o/
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Hi Jeanne, I always love your blog posting.

I did go to Hancock’s today but you beat me bigtime. Now I need to go back and get those patterns
