Last night when I left you, (here) I had worked on Eden’s Civil War dress and was almost finished, but it took the rest of today to finish it.
Why? Well, I wasn’t happy with the back of the dress… too full, so I wanted to add some darts. But, you can’t add darts without taking off the skirt, so I had to undo the topstitching, the serged edge and the stitching. Then I added the darts, put the skirt back on, serged the edges, and topstitched it again.
I got it hemmed and it was looking pretty good, but I needed to make the bonnet, the belt and the petticoat slip. I played around with the bonnet probably the longest. I didn’t want a bonnet from the fabric…it seemed too busy for this set. So I used some gray wool felt and I think it turned out really sweet with the black trim and beads added.
The petticoat was a snap and looks great under the dress. It does just what it’s supposed to do… hold out the dress.
Next it was on to taking the pictures…. that was a bit tricky as we were in the middle of a tornado watch and thunderstorm, so not only was it dark outside, which made it dark inside, I was keeping an eye on the weather map in case I needed to box up my dolls and patterns and head to the basement. It passed in a little while and I had to work quickly to get my pictures posted to my Ebay auction. My satellite was affected by the weather and it was making my slow computer even slower! So, without further ado… here is Eden modeling the finished Civil War dress.
If you want to see the auction, you can click on the picture of it on the right side bar.
Here’s a close up shot of the detailed bodice…
A white petticoat helps hold out the dress:
ALSO, don’t forget… my “First Frost” dress set for the Effner 13″ Little Darlings, ends this evening on Ebay. You can see it here.
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
Gorgeous, Jeanne! I love the waistband, is that sewn onto the dress, or a separate piece?
Oh yes, those storms yesterday! Looks like Illinois got the worst of it though, even though we had lots of rain. It’s been a gloomy past few days here! Go Cards!!!!
Thanks Linda,
The belt is a separate piece and fastens in the back with velcro.
Did you have any damage in your area? We didn’t in the immediate area, but just in places around us.
YES, GO CARDS!!!
Blessings, Jeanne
Jeanne, Love the dress, love the hat!
HI Cindy,
I love the bonnet too!
Love you, me
The dress and bonnet turned out beautifully, Jeanne! The wool bonnet is the perfect touch. I also love the petticoat.
We had a lot of rain at the other end of the state too, and more coming today and tomorrow. 🙁
Thank you Cindy.
Thanks for your compliments on the set. Time to move on to the next one now…
Are you in northern Illinois? Yes, it’s been a couple of gloomy days around here.
Blessings, Jeanne
