Sorry, ladies, no dolly talk today. My day was super busy from 9:00 this morning till late this evening, so I’m writing about something that I thought would just be fun for you to see…I’m glad I take pictures of everything. I’ll be back with dolly stuff next time.
My daughter had a baby shower to go to and wanted to make something special for the new mom to be. She combed the internet, through Pinterest and every other possible idea place and finally decided to make a “diaper guitar.” She knew the basis of her gift would be the onesie used as the focal point, and after searching diligently she finally found the perfect one. The dad to be is in a band and she thought this one would really put a smile on the dad’s face.
You can go online and google “diaper guitar” and find all kinds of tutorials, so I’ll spare you all the details and just show what we did.
But I’ll give you some basics just to point out what’s in the pictures. You’ll form the basis of the guitar with diapers held in a circle with rubberbands.
After getting your diapers in 2 groups, you have to slide the onesie over them…it does help to have 4 hands!
We took a strip of sturdy cardboard and wrapped a navy and white striped receiving blanket aound it, tucking in the edges and it worked out
perfectly to use clear rubberbands along it where the frets on a guitar neck would be.
Rebecca wanted her guitar to look like an electric guitar so she put a slight angle at the top neck using more cardboard.
I had a white sheer ribbon that was striped and when it was placed over the navy and white striped “neck” it looked wonderfully like the frets on a real guitar. A soft fleece blanket was rolled on the diagonal and placed around the whole onesie and held together in the middle with a piece of orange fabric that I happened to have.
Rebecca found these adorable gray baby mittens that looked like sharks and the shark teeth looked just like the “keys” on a guitar. Looking pretty cute, huh? (she just gave the other mitten along with the rest of the diapers to her friend)
A few buttons and ribbons were added and voila! Daddy’s Rock Star!
Rebecca said it was the hit of the baby shower and the dad just LOVED it!
Don’t forget about the Giveaway on Tuesday, Sept. 30th. You can read about that post and see the prizes being offered here.
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
How adorable and clever is that! Rebecca is turning out to be just like her mother! May I ask, what size onesie did she use and how big of a package of diapers? You and Rebecca just blow me away with the things you both create!
Linda,
Thanks so much! I think the onesie was a 24 month size and the diapers were size 1. I don’t think size matters as much as just getting the two bundles of diapers right. One needs to be slightly bigger than the other. Some tutorials show using a 6″ and an 8″ cake pan to get the circumferences right. It was a lot of fun to see it come to life right before our eyes.
Now it’s your turn Linda!
Blessings, Jeanne and Rebecca
I love it!!! Such a perfect gift! Best diaper creation I’ve ever seen. I made one once but was the typical “cake” kind. I love that it is bright colors and not pastels. Don’t know where you ever found a striped receiving blanket, and the shark socks! How perfect!
Thanks Cindy,
You should have seen all the things Rebecca brought home in hopes that something would work. She had sheets, socks, other onesies, blankets, etc. We finally decided on this color scheme. Those are shark “mittens” not socks. They were adorable!
Thanks Cindy,
Love you, Jeanne AND Rebecca
This is great, what a super and useful present to receive when you’re having a baby and your partner is into music! Brilliant!
Hugs Sharon in Spain x
Thanks Sharon,
It was fun to make and apparently fun to receive! That’s what matters most!
