Fall is just around the corner….so bring on the corduroy!

It’s inevitable Fall is coming! The trees are beginning to drop leaves, their colors are changing, the temperatures are getting lower each week, so get ready…it’s just a matter of time. Actually I like Fall very much! I like wearing socks and cardigan sweaters and jackets…I love the cool breezes in the evenings and I sure don’t miss all the sweating when it’s 90+ degrees! I love making soups and comfort-y foods in my crock pot too.

As I turn my attention from making lightweight summery doll clothes, I looked back at some of my past creations (not such great photography, I might add) and thought I’d showcase a few of my corduroy creations. When making things from corduroy, it’s best to use the tiniest wale corduroy you can. I like Featherwale or pinwale corduroy as it’s the perfect feel for smaller dolls. So grab a cup of coffee or cocoa and sit back and enjoy…

  1. Jeanne, I love fall too ! But I am going to have to wait several more weeks until the cooler weather heads south and comes to north Texas. Your comments of falling leaves and changing colors reminds me of my younger years in Minnesota. We always had plenty of leaves to rake and lots of fun jumping into the piles. It reminds me of how my dad and the other neighborhood men would burn the leaves out in the street. Standing around on Saturday talking and comparing college football teams while they tending their small fires. There was something special about the sights, the smells and activities of the fall season. Lots of corduroy for sure but not the delightful printed versions shown on your girls. We wore just the plain solid colors usually purchased in the fabric department at JC Penney. Sweaters, yes, lots of sweaters!!

    1. Jeannie, I know what you mean about the corduroys “we” wore being blah! It was either solid brown or maybe you got lucky and had something burgundy! There are SO many variations of it now…it’s almost like any other fabric.
Your reminiscences of the past were wonderfully described! Bring on the sweaters!
      Thanks Jeannie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Wow, Jeanne! You’ve sure made a lot of pretty outfits with corduroy. Yesterday I made a dress out of corduroy too. It’s still warm here, but the calendar is still moving forward. Yes, it won’t be long… Thanks for sharing your photos. I enjoyed looking at them them.

    1. HI Cindy,
Was the dress you made from corduroy for yourself or for a doll?
I had all my corduroys out last night and was going to make one for Isabelle, but decided to make something else. There’s plenty of time for warmer things…
Thanks for your sweet comments. I didn’t even show some of the prettiest things as I was going to wait until closer to Christmas.
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Gosh, I can’t remember the last thing I made for myself… I want to start sewing for myself again as I can get the fit better than ready to wear, but it’s more fun sewing for our dolls, isn’t it? The corduroy dress I made this week is for our Little Darlings. I’m working on the sweater now. I keep stopping to do this and that so it’s not getting finished. All of your dresses are so pretty…haven’t seen one that wasn’t.

  3. The outfits you’ve shown for Riley on the blog are especially wonderful as Riley is small. Some years ago I thought I’m make an outfit for an eight inch MA. Never again. Even the Tenners are too small for my sewing.

  4. Hi Jan,
When I first received Riley, I thought she was very tiny, but as I began refining my patterns for her, it just came easy to me. I enjoyed making things for her as it was pretty quick usually. My troll dolls that I started out sewing for were smaller than Riley, but they certainly didn’t require as many details as Riley’s dresses did.
    Thanks Jan,
    Blessings, Jeanne
