I just LOVE making beautiful Civil War dresses for the American Girl dolls. I have collected and been given many, many books and pamphlets on the fashions of that day and feel comfortable when I’m making a new dress, knowing that I have somewhat of a grasp on the style desired. I can spot a Civil War fabric a mile away and have more of that era than probably any other. This is just another inspirational post showing some of my past Civil War necklines and button “brooches.” I hope you enjoy seeing just how many ways I’ve decorated past dresses.
Do you have a favorite?
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
A favorite??? How in the world could anyone ever have time to decide that? I love them all!! Goodness, you put me to shame!
I am interested in hearing what you think of Addy’s new School Outfit? I have it and love it! It looks more like something you would get on Etsy.
Hi Linda,
Thanks for sharing. I have been making Civil War dresses for quite a while so that’s why I have more than a few to share. I seriously love making this style.
I looked up the new School Outfit for Addy and it does look every cute. The black trim against the light (aqua?) fabric is very eye catching. The close up pictures on the American Girl site looks like the fabric is a polyester, but I’m assuming it’s cotton?
It’s a very sweet design and looks pretty on Addy. It does look like something on Etsy… maybe a Keepers Dolly Duds design even.
Thanks for sharing, Linda,
Blessings, Jeanne
Jeanne,
Oh no, that fabric is a lightweight WOOL, in a very pretty, soft blue, not aqua. It looks like something you would do!! The braid is exquisite and all around the back too. Just a complete surprise at the design and quality of the outfit. I love it!

Oh, I can vote for just one…..the third one down….the yellow dress with the grey buttons….looks like the uniform design for the Southern Army….and I noticed the machine decorative stitches at the top of the sleeves…..BUT that’s not to say the others aren’t amazing as well.
Good morning Trish,
Well, who would have guessed it… you picked my favorite too! It was, when I made it, and still is to this day, my favorite. I made one and sold it. A customer of mine wanted one similar but I searched and searched the internet for that same sweet yellow, red and black print fabric. The search went on for months. I was just about to give up when I spotted a bundle of fat quarters and lo and behold, it had 2 fat quarters of the exact same fabric. The only problem was, you had to buy the whole bundle of yellow fabrics…and they were $29.99 apiece. Yikes… but I did… made the dress, only in a shorter version with short sleeves and it turned out wonderfully. My customer was thrilled!
Thanks Trish,
Blessings, Jeanne
AWESOME.
I am humbled by your imagination.
I seriously can not pick a favorite. They are all outstanding. WOW!!
Thank you Jeannie,
I’m glad they are all your favorites… that means I’m doing something right!
