I’ve always liked things that stand out… literally! Like my boutique overalls I showed you a few days ago; the grass skirt on the Hula Monkey overalls was a real costume hula skirt that I cut up and stitched on so it was “fluffy” like… standing away from the overalls. The Lei flowers around the legs were silk flowers that were attached in the middle, but the edges were left loose. I’ve always liked embellishing my doll clothes with things that have texture or dimension to them, giving it a 3-D look. I think it’s more interesting when things are “touchable” and not everything appliqued down using a satin stitch. Lots of hand work is used when you do this, but the results speak for themselves.
I’ve used a variety of felt flowers, felt pieces, stem stitched hand embroidery, buttons and some fuzzy appliques for the examples below. I hope it causes your imagination to run just a little bit wild so you can do something 3-D and FUN!
When I made this little set, my hubby told me it reminded him of a Mini Doris Day…
Once you give it a try, you’ll want to do it all the time…
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne
